Frequently Asked Questions

How much do the charts cost?

All of my charts are priced depending on various factors such as the size and complexity of the piece. Please get in contact with me  for a quote. I can create charts for all different budgets and I will work with you to explore your options for the coastline you would like to commission.

As a guide, prices start as follows for standard sizes (sizes relate to frame glass size, not chart size).

Do all charts come framed?

Yes all of my charts come framed. There are various options for framing and I can add features such as surround lighting if desired.  The cost of the frame will be included in the cost for the chart. I do not offer the option of delivering the chart unframed as the frame creates part of the visual effect and protects the chart.

Do you offer different glass options?

Yes, different glass options can be sourced, from standard float glass to full Museum Glass with up to 99% UV filtration. I can also provide frames with UV  protected acrylic glass which can be a more durable and safer alternative to glass, especially if the piece is going to be displayed in a public area.  Options will be presented during the quote stage.  I do recommend going for a UV protected option in order to preserve the piece.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes all of my charts come with a 2 year warranty covering manufacturing and workmanship defects. Please note that the charts should be kept out of direct sunlight and should not be hung in areas with large temperature and humidity variations in order not to exceed the working range of the materials and adhesives used. Please inform me of any defects as soon as possible and I will do my best to rectify as quickly as possible.

Can the charts be used for Navigation?

No, these charts are not to be used for navigation and are for artwork purposes only.

Can I collect my chart in person?

If you would like to arrange to collect your chart, please contact me to arrange an appointment. I am based in the Central Belt of Scotland within one hours drive of 70 percent of the population of the country.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs vary depending on the chart size and location, prices of the charts do not include shipping. Please note shipping will be charged at cost, I do not make money from shipping costs.

Where do you ship to?

At present I only ship within the UK. I can also deliver in person for a charge within reasonable distance, I also can accommodate collections or personal deliveries for large format pieces for an additional cost (suitable for large glass frames).

Can I return my chart?

As my charts are bespoke, handmade and unique items, I cannot accept returns unless the item is damaged on delivery. If any damages are present when the chart arrives please inform me within 14 days.

What is the lead time from ordering?

The lead time from order to completion depends on various factors such as sizer and complexity of the chart and time of year. Normally it will be between 4 to 8 weeks from order to delivery. If you need your chart quicker, then please contact me and I will see what can be done to accommodate. Smaller pieces can sometimes be produced quicker.

What is the process for agreeing the chart crop to be used?

Most of my pieces are cropped areas from a larger chart. As part of the quote process  I ask that you provide as much info as possible about the area that you would like included in your chart. I will then produce and image that shows the crop of the area that I intend to use when I issue the quote. For some areas, I have a standard crop that I will use, for example the Isle of Wight or full UK.

What charts do you use to produce the artwork?

I can use charts from various different sources. I mainly use UKHO charts but can also source NOAA charts for example. Prior to using a chart I always ensure I have permission and where applicable a copyright licence in place.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions!
