Craig's Story

 

I grew up in Scotland, and  have always had a passion for the ocean, and have spent hours looking at Nautical charts. I trained as  a merchant Navy deck officer and was fortunate enough to travel all over the World using nautical charts to plan my route and mark my position along the way. I always thought there was a beauty to the contour lines on nautical  charts which got me thinking about how these could create beautiful pieces of art. When I stopped sailing, and came ashore to drive a desk, I thought I would try and turn a chart into art. At first I thought it would be easy but oh how wrong I was! It has taken years of experimenting with different techniques and materials to get my work where it is today, but what a rewarding journey  it has been. Each chart is a  one of a kind creation that takes hours of concentration to get right. But the reward at the end is seeing something special take shape, that can transform any room!
